Introduction to Speed Shooting

Course hours: Course begins at 8:00 AM and ends approximately 4:30 PM. All attendees will meet in the main classroom at The Site.
Course Description: This course will focus on both the technical and psychological attributes needed to excel in Practical Pistol shooting competition with heavy emphasis on initial self-assessment and diagnosis for the practice of speed shooting. Utilizing steel plate racks at various distances, this tool will be used as the foundation for understanding the self-diagnostic process, shot calling, and how to improve the core of all fundamentals. Proper dry fire techniques, basic classifier drills and shooting actual stages are all a part of the 2 – day curriculum.
If your current skill level is average or above, Intro to Speed Shooting contains what you need to take yourself to the next level as you will be given insight into what it takes to develop truly World Class shooting skills.
Regardless if you’re new to the shooting sports, LE/Military looking to up your essential pistol skills, or looking to improve speed for your defensive practices, this class is designed with you in mind. All drills, mini stages, and live fire will be catered towards the shooter’s current abilities and how to find immediate techniques that will work for the individual shooter.

Gear
- Serviceable Semi-Auto Handgun (red dot sights ok)
- Outside the Waist Band Holster, Mag Pouches, and belt setup preferably for competition. Duty rig ok, duty vest not required unless enforced by agency
- Minimum of 5 Magazines
- Lula Mag Loader – Not mandatory but highly recommended. https://www.maglula.com/product-category/pistol-mag-loaders
- Liquid hand chalk – Recommend Grip Shield sold on Amazon. Brand preferred due to drying clear and not white, therefore keeping the gun clean.
- Wrap around eye protection. Note; standard prescription glasses must be covered with wrap around eye protection
- Hearing Protection (electronic type recommended)
- Notebook and Pen
- Gun Lube and cleaning kit
- Sunscreen
- Bug repellent (gnats can be thick during Spring and Summer months)
Appropriate range clothing: long sleeve shirt with closed neck. You will be shooting on both paper and steel targets. Check the weather for Mount Carroll, IL prior to the start of the course and bring appropriate clothing
1500 rounds minimum
Far from an entry level course, attendees must be experienced handgun shooters who have completed at minimum, a formal 2-day pistol training course such as The Site’s FAST Pistol or other similar course given by another reputable training organization or individual. NRA Basic Pistol Courses or CCW courses do not qualify. Approval must be gained from Angela Spalla Spalla.angelarose@gmail.com or Jim Kauber jimkauber@thesitetraining.com prior to attendance.
