Objective: To afford the qualified law enforcement sniper the opportunity to practice and develop tactics, techniques and procedures for reality based law enforcement call-out situations versus practice sessions consisting of laying prone and shooting groups at 100 yards or mirroring military sniper procedures and requirements.
Prerequisite: Must be a department-designated sniper as once zeros are confirmed the curriculum will immediately transition to the following operational subject matter:
- Review of each snipers individually issued weapon system and equipment (firearm, optic, suppressor & support equipment)
- Weapons maintenance, torque specifications for maintaining zeroes
- Mil/MOA reticle and understanding 1st and 2nd focal plane sub-tensions at lower magnifications for short range engagements (<100 yards) where a wider field of view is essential
- External Ballistics and Effects of Weather
- Chronographing department issued ammunition, drop chart / wind constant establishment
- Sniper / Spotter / TOC communications
- Zero confirmation 100 – 500 yards
- Timed, Positive Identification (PID) Target Engagement (spotter/sniper) communications
- Exact elevation come-up establishment at odd ranges, positional shooting (other than prone).
- Range Card development for over watch scenarios
- Low light / Night shoot considerations and practical. Use of Night Vision devices (if attending agencies have stand alone night vision or thermal clip-on capabilities)
- Moving target, lead development; limited exposure rapid follow-up engagements
- Urban hide set-up and PID stationary/moving target engagement through hide material/window screen material.
- Vehicle hide set-up and PID stationary/moving target engagement
- High angle considerations and practical, how important is it relative to the LE Sniper engagement distances
- Command Fire Procedures
- Terminal projectile performance / evaluation through glass

Gear Requirements:
- Precision rifle (capable of sub-minute of angle accuracy) w/ sling
- Scope with MOA or Milliradian adjustment target turrets and MOA or MIL – based reticle variant
- Rifle mounted bipod; Atlas BT 47 – LW 17 PSR, Harris S series L / LM models recommended
- Night vision scope; clip-on, stand alone or thermal stand alone (if department has these units)
- Kestrel (optional)
- Cheek rest if your rifle does not have a stock with an adjustable cheek piece (Ex. Blackhawk, Hawktex)
- Shooting mat
- Binoculars (recommend a rangefinder integrated into binoculars)
- Rangefinder (recommend a rangefinder integrated into binoculars)
- Spotting scope / stand (optional)
- Small calculator (smartphone ok)
- Small sand/bean bag for butt stock support or a Game Changer bag
- Rifle Cleaning Equipment: One piece stainless steel or coated rod, 12″ longer than barrel length (sectional rods not recommended), bore guide, bronze bore brush, nylon bore brush, patch jag, appropriate size cotton or flannel patches, powder solvent, copper solvent, Bore snake
- Ear (in-ear electronic type recommended) and Eye Protection
- Rite in the Rain notebook and or Data Book
- Pencils (pens will not write in the rain) You will be provided a course curriculum manual with ample room for taking notes in each chapter
- Operational clothing appropriate for the week’s weather
- Ball cap or boonie hat
- Rain gear (we will shoot in the rain if the weather dictates)
- Sunscreen
- Bag, backpack and/or drag bag for carrying all equipment
- Tripod, adjustable from sitting to standing position.
- Hog saddle or direct weapon attachment to tripod ballhead
- Ballistic program on smart phones highly recommended, i.e., Shooter or Ballistic AE
- Any other department issued equipment unique to the sniper load out

Ammunition Requirements: 250 rounds match / department issue (same lot number)
Note: If departments are transitioning to different types or brands of ammunition then recommend snipers bring this for re-zeroing and testing through medium such as windshield glass for deflection, bullet upset and terminal performance comparison. Example; TAP AMAX to TAP ELD-M
